Greetings,
In order to enjoy some of the mods that we use (Creaturemod, Hitching Post, PMK and Custom decorations, and Custom Map), you'll need to install some optional mods. Please note do this install while you are not logged into Wurm. Please also note that there are two ways to do this install now. The first is a link to an executable file that will walk you through a wizard. The second is the manual install ( a bit more complicated)
Setup Automated Wizard Install:
1) Please make sure to do this when you are not signed into Wurm. Go to this link
2) Make sure to click the blue Releases button in the upper left corner. That will give you the latest release.
3) Left click on Wurm.Client.ModloaderV08.exe It should download at the bottom of your internet window. Left click it below and Open or Run. Simply follow the prompts to install. You will get an option of what mods to install.
4) If you want to use the Quality Damage Tooltips client mod then follow step 10 in the Manual install below.
Setup Manual Install:
1) First you will need to go to this link and download the following four mods:
client-modlauncher-0.8.1.zip
connectionfix-0.8.1.zip
custommap-0.8.1.zip
serverpacks-client-0.8.1.zip
github.com/ago1024/WurmClientModLauncher/releases/tag/v0.8.1
Download them someplace that you will remember.
2) Second you'll need to know what version of Windows you are currently using. If it's Windows 8 or Windows 10 it's more then likely going to be a 64 bit version but it doesn't hurt to check. You can do this by clicking Start in the lower left side of your taskbar. You should see a blue vertical bar on the right side of the window that pops up when you do this. You'll see the word Computer in there. Right click on it and choose Properties. A system screen will pop up and under the second section in the middle titled System you should see and entry called System type. It should say either 32-bit or 64-bit Operating System. Once you've found that you can close out this screen.
3) Next you'll need to find the location of your Wurm Unlimited Install. We are looking for the Wurmlauncher folder (note this is in different locations on different operating systems - see below)
If you have Windows 7 (32 bit) or Windows 8 (32 bit) it will be located here. C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Wurm Unlimited\WurmLauncher
If you have Windows 7 (64 bit) or Windows 8 (64 bit) or Windows 10 it will be located here. C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Wurm Unlimited\WurmLauncher
4) Once you have located this directory you will need to unzip the previous four files that you downloaded into the WurmLauncher folder. Please note they need to be done in a certain order. Order is listed below.
client-modlauncher-0.8.1.zip
serverpacks-client-0.8.1.zip
connectionfix-0.8.1.zip
custommap-0.8.1.zip
To unzip the files you simply need to right click on the zip file and then choose Extract All. it will give you an option of where you want to unzip the files. Choose whichever WurmLauncher directory that you discovered in Step 3 above (i.e C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Wurm Unlimited\WurmLauncher for 32 bit or C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Wurm Unlimited\WurmLauncher for 64 bit)
You might get a message when unzipping that the folders Mods, Serverpacks, Connectionfix, Custommap and serverpacks.jar, connectionfix.jar, custommap.jar already exist would you like to overwrite them. Say Yes or Copy and Replace respectively.
5) Once these are all unzipped you should see the following files under your WurmLauncher directory:
javassist.jar
logging.properties
modlauncher.jar
patcher.bat (Note you will be using this one again)
patcher.jar
patcher.sh
and a folder called mods which has the following underneath it:
connectionfix, custommap, and serverpacks folders (Note each of these folders should have a file with the same name under it with a .jar extension)
connectionfix.properties, custommap.properties (you may or may not see this it doesn't matter either way), and serverpack.properties files
6) Ok now back into the Wurmlauncher folder if you are not already there and right click on the client.jar file and choose copy. You'll want to paste this in another folder so that you have a backup copy just in case.
7) Right click on the patcher.bat file (if you don't have file extensions turned on then it will be the one that has the icon with two gears) and choose Send to then Desktop (create shortcut). This will create a shortcut on your desktop. Check that it's there and then you can close the Wurmlauncher window.
8) Double click the patcher.bat on your desktop. A black command prompt window will pop up and do a few things. It will tell you that everything was patched correctly and to press any key to continue. Press a key and the window will disappear. The reason that we copy this down to your desktop is that if the server is updated then you'll need to run that patcher.bat again to update your graphics again.
9) Close any windows that you still have open and sign into Wurm. Once connected to the server and inside the game the packs will start to download. This can take awhile (sometimes up to a half hour or so) depending on your internet connection. During this time the game might freeze for a second and flash white and buildings might disappear (this is a sign that the packs are loading in). Once it unfreezes you should start to see signs of the new graphics. You can look at the wagons outside the south gate at spawn (they should no longer be plain green freedom wagons) or check out a zebra or panda (they should no longer be a white horse or an angry brown cow). You should also be able to see the server map instead of the default Wurm Unlimited Creative map when you press M.
10) OPTIONAL AND NOT REQUIRED FOR CUSTOM GRAPHICS. We also use the Quality Damage Tooltips mod that allows you to move your cursor over structures (walls, fences, bridges, etc.) as well as ground items (forges, carts, tents, single dropped items, etc.) and see what quality they are and how much damage they have. This is particularly useful if your are improving said structures or items.
Download the QualityDamageTooltipsClient.zip from here and unzip the files into the WurmLauncher folder just like you did with the zip files above. If it warns you there is already a mods folder then just click Yes. Once unzipped you should see a QualityDamageTooltipsClient folder and a QualityDamageTooltipsClient.properties file.
I hope this helps and if you have any any difficulties, feel free to ask for help inside the CA Help channel or GL-Freedom channel in game.
