I just wanted to post some general guidelines for when we do Unique hunts so you can review them ahead of time and make the hunts go a little smoother. Especially for those who haven't been on a hunt before.
Preparing for the battle:
Armor and weapons - You'll want to use your best armor and weapons. Preferably use either plate mail or dragon scale if you plan on hacking and slashing. If you plan on healing or casting spells then you'll have to use cloth so you don't get the negative modifiers. For weapons it's recommended that you use a two handed weapon, either a two handed sword or a huge axe. It's not required but they tend to do the most damage. You can always use whatever weapon you have your highest skill in though.
Enchantments - Again not required but here's some guidelines if you plan on enchanting your weapons or armor. For armor (Helm, Breastplate, and legs) it's probably not a bad idea to get Aura of Shared Pain or Web Armor at least for your breastplate. Same goes for a shield if you use one. For weapons there's a bunch of different enchantments you can use but most of the ones that do damage (Frostbrand, Flaming Aura, etc) can only be paired with Nimble, Mind Stealer, or a Demise enchant as multiple damage enchants don't stack. Here's a brief list of ones that work well against different Uniques
Dragons - (Dragon's Demise, Frostbrand, Life Transfer, Venom, Mind Stealer)
Kyklops, Troll King, and Forest Giant (Self Healer's Demise, Flaming Aura, Life Transfer, Venom, Mind Stealer)
Goblin Leader (Flaming Aura or Frostbrand, Life Transfer, Venom, Mind Stealer)
Food, Water, and Healing without spells - Its probably a good idea to carry at least several meals with you in your lunchbox and probably some extra water over what fits in your thermos. Cotton String or cloth can be used to bandage with and can be stacked so it wouldn't be a bad idea to carry a good bit of this to heal up in a pinch. Same for Farmer's Salve and for Healing Covers (higher potency the better).
Transportation - We recommend using your fastest mount with your highest quality horseshoes and saddle so that you can keep up with the group and don't get lost. We don't recommend using a cart or wagon as we will be using portals to get back and forth between hunts more quickly as we usually do multiple Uniques at a time. Remember to save some room in your inventory to hold your mount so that you can use the portals. Also we recommend using horses over unicorns and hell horses as those need to be tamed and Uniques, just like most creatures will target a tamed mount or creature first and with Uniques they usually do a lot of damage so your mount can die quickly especially with breath weapons. Also it's best to use a saddle because sometimes you can be thrown and you don't want your mount wandering off on you.
Discord - We recommend using discord if your able as most of the people leading the hunts will be using it and sometimes we forget to type stuff out in chat. We will be using either a special event chat tab or the GL-Freedom chat tab for hunts.
During the Battle:
Tanks - We usually designate one or two individuals who are highly skilled in defensive combat to tank the Unique. They will usually be in heavier armor and will be more often then not using a shield. Uniques tend to aggro from a great distance so please try to stay with the main group and don't run ahead. The tank will run ahead of the group, grab the Unique and maneuver them back to the group. Once they are back to the group you will want to stand on the same square as they are on so the Unique doesn't run around all over the place. It's a good idea to identify the tank or tanks ahead of time so you can quickly find them when the battle starts.
Fighting - Uniques are tough to hit. You will need at least a 60 or higher Fighting Skill to even get a decent chance to hit them on a regular basis in most cases. That's not saying you won't be able to hit them with lower skill but in either case you will need to Focus on them to hit them. You can use focus if you don't use auto attack. Simply target the Unique and click on the X in that target window, adjust if you are too far or too close but remember to stay in the same square as the tank. To focus you just keep clicking the eye icon. Note it won't be available right away as it takes a few swings for it to warm up if you will. Once it's ready you'll get an action timer and then you'll get a message in the event window telling you the level of focus. You'll also probably notice that the color of the various body parts will change from red to orange, to yellow, to green as you become more focused. Although many times if you have a lower skill it will probably stay red. Usually targeting the body gives you a better chance to hit it. Sometimes you'll even get more advanced attacks with a higher focus level.
Achievements - All of the Uniques will give you an achievement which also gives you a title. You usually just need to hit it at least once during the battle to get the title so make sure if you need to leave the battle for healing or you got thrown that you get back and hit it at least once before it dies to get the achievement.
Blood, Dragon Scale, and Drake Hide - (Blood) Every unique will drop blood. This will drop in everyone's inventory that is close enough to the Unique when it dies. The blood is always a set weight and can be turned into a potion, ointment, oil, or salve by someone with a high Natural Substances skill. Each Unique blood turns into a different type. The different types can be found here Blood When these are applied to a tool they will give you an almost enchantment like bonus to whatever skill the potion is. (For example a potion of mining can be applied to a pick axe to give you a bonus to your mining skill). Usually at the end of the Hunt one of the leaders of the hunt will turn these into potions for you. Note this blood may also be used for some crafting items.
(Dragon Scale) Dragons will drop dragon scale into everyone's inventory that is close enough to the dragon when it dies and it will be different weights based on the age of the dragon and how many people are on the hunt. Everyone will get the same weight. These scales can be turned into Dragon Scale Armor by higher level plate smithing. Probably one of the toughest armors in the game, it's at least as tough as plate but you don't have to worry about being slowed down like you are when you're wearing plate. The color of the armor is determined by the color of the dragon scale (a white dragon drops white scale, a black dragon black scale, etc). These colors can be combined as long as the last scale to be used is the color of the armor you want. You will need a certain weight of scale for each piece. Many times we will have extra scale and sometimes people will sell or trade their scale so that you can get enough get a set or at the very least some pieces of armor.
(Drake Hide) Dragon Hatchling drop drake scale into everyone's inventory that is close enough to the dragon hatchling when it dies and again like scale it will be different weights based on the age of the hatchling and how many people are on the hunt. Again everyone will get the same weight. Drake Hide is used to make Drake Hide Leather armor. This is made by higher leatherworking skill and is a leather armor that is equivalent to studded leather without the negative penalties when wearing studded leather. Very good for archers and running around on your deed. Again like dragon scale it's based off the color of the dragon that drops it and can be combined with other colors to make a set. You will need a certain weight for each piece of armor.
After the Battle:
Looting, Corpse taking and Butchering - WHEN THE UNIQUE DIES WE ASK THAT YOU DO NOT LOOT, BUTCHER, OR PICK UP THE CORPSE There are several reasons for this. The first being that Uniques have a chance to drop a Strange Bone, Skull or Sorcery Tome or Item. Since there is only one Bone, one Skull or one Tome or Item we will roll at the end of each kill to see who gets what item. In the case of Sorcery Tomes and Items there are three charges so there will be three rolls. We ask that you don't butcher it because the hunt leaders will have a very high butchering skill and the higher the skill the higher the chance to obtain these items. Basically when the Unique falls one of the leaders will pick up the corpse, butcher it and then we will roll on the items.
Rolling for Loot - We will roll on Strange Bones (these can make items rare based off the rarity of the bone), Skulls (these all look like dragon skulls but you can place them down for decoration on your deed), Sorcery Tomes and Items (there are three separate charges on each tome or item so there will be three different rolls. Each charge requires the item to be used at an altar in various locations and when used gives you a buff, a debuff a title, and a spell that uses karma and is cast with a staff. See this link for more information Sorcery
The hunt leader will announce what we are rolling for in whatever chat window we are using for the hunt. You will need to stand on the same tile as them and then when they say it's time you will need to type /random to roll. The highest roll will receive the item. In the case of a tie the people tied will re-roll and the highest roll between those people wins. After everything has been rolled for the hunt leader will give out any items, with the exception of Sorcery Items. They will take note of who won the rolls on the Sorcery Items and we will do that at the end of all of the hunts. If there are any items left (meat, alchemy items (teeth, glands, etc.), weapons and shields, and the corpse itself) then we will ask if anyone wants them and if there is more then one person that does then we can roll on those items as well. After that we will move to the next hunt if any and then finally we can finish doing the Sorcery Items if any.
After the Hunt:
Sorcery Items - At the end of the hunt if we picked up any Sorcery Items then those who won the rolls will travel to wherever we need to go to activate the item. The first person who won the roll will activate the item while next to the appropriate altar and Use the item. Then they will pass it to the next person to win the roll and they will do the same and finally pass it to the last person to win the roll. Please be careful that you don't use more than one charge when you do it.
That's about it. Remember that the majority of this information is just for guidelines, especially the weapons and the armor section. Feel free to use whatever you like as those are just recommendations. We do ask though that you follow some of the other rules like letting the tank grab the Unique, standing on the tanks square to fight, rolling on the hunt leaders square if you want loot, and bring a fast horse. These things just help to alleviate the chaos that Unique hunts can sometimes turn into.
As always if you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
